"Hey, did you see the T-32 color filter set ($34.95 brand new, B&H) that
sold for $35.88? I think I'm gonna go in business buying stuff from B&H
and selling it on eBay... :-)"

The thought has crossed my mind often. The Polaroid 690 is still selling
for $130 at B&H. It will eventually go back to $360 ($400 list). If I
bought a dozen or so, I could probably make a lot of money with a Dutch
auction set to a reserve of $250.

This is off-topic, but the new Polaroid 'Platinum' film is terrific.
Significantly sharper, and with more-accurate colors.

It is not necessarily true that repeated saves in a lossy format cause
continued loss of quality. Once the data have been reduced, the image is
now in the "preferred" data format for the lossy compression, and little
or no further degradation should occur. (A similar line of reasoning
applies to AC-3 and other forms of lossy audio compression.)

Does anyone out there have more-definitive information on this?

The new Pop Photo came yesterday. It includes a "shoot-out" of the
50/1.4 lenses for all the major SLR systems. Guess -- just _guess_ --
which one _isn't_ included.

I'm tempted to write a nasty letter to Jason Schneider -- "Is this yet
another nail in the OM coffin?". (It's doubly surprising because Burt
Keppler, the publisher, is a Zuikophile from way back.) But Jason and I
aren't on very good terms. Perhaps other people in this group will put
pen to paper (or finger to keyboard).

The next time I'm passing a fabric store, I'll look for 180ray velvet.
