Last night (Monday)there was a terrific little drama on the BBC
called Shooting the Past. First part of a three part series.
The plot involves an American businessman who has bought a large
mansion in the English countryside which houses a library with a
collection comprising some 10M b&w photographs. He wants to convert
the place into a business school, sell of a few valuable photos and
trash the remaining 9.99M. The librarians aren't too keen on this.
I mention it here because it is the only drama I can recall having
seen which has as a central theme the historical importance and
power of photographs. I thought that some others might be
interested in either tuning into it if they are not aware of it
or looking out for it should it ever come their way.
many really fine b&w photographs appear in the first episode. Some
may have been 'created' for the program but are none the less good.
Some almost make me want to down-tools and give up!
