All the Olympus cameras I've seen with any significant amount of circuitry
use double-sided flexible boards. They solder readily enough, but removing
the solder mask to get at the actual trace is a bear if you need to do that.
OTOH, I have yet to damage one by soldering, though I use a 700 F Weller
temperature-controlled soldering station; the average Radio Shark soldering
iron would probably wreak havoc. Anyone with experience working on
surface-mount PC boards should be able to work on one of these, if suitable
care is taken. I'd really recommend practicing on a junker first.
