"Too much is made of this problem IMO. The 4Ti is apparently immune to
developing this problem so perhaps that is the model to aim for."
I sometimes feel I'm yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater, while
everyone remains sitting in their seats.
The 4T & 4Ti are _not_ immune to excessive battery drain, or other
electrical problems. (The first time I returned my 4T for repair,
Olympus USA claimed they replaced the circuitry, bu the problems
persisted.) It appears that Olympus finally quashed this problem six or
seven years ago.
If I were buying a used 4T or 4Ti, I would go over the camera thoroughly
to make sure it doesn't have electrical problems. (By the way, one of
the Olympus FAQs explicitly states that the 4T & 4Ti are the same
camera, differing only in the name. The 4T is the US edition.)
"The simple work-around is when you have finished shooting, unscrew the
battery cover, reverse one of the batteries and replace the cover."
This is inconvenient at best, and a major pain in the toches if you
normally leave the motor drive mounted on the camera. It is, at best, a
temporary "solution."
