Of course you can run your computer on the battery till it is ready to be
recharged

NiMh has negligible memory. It is virtually nonexistent.
The self discharge is high however.
You can buy 1300mAH AA NiMH cells for about $2.50.
There is s pretty decent web site about NiMh cells.
