pay about $20 per image.
(Assuming that I don't want to build my own dark room) have you any
suggestions? There must be a middle of the road way to get prints that are
quality and price between competition/professional (ie $12-$20 each plus
proof) grade and poor to useless (ie $12/roll). >>
I get most of my processing done at a locally owned photo specialty store. Not
what I would call a custom lab, but not Wal-Mart, either. A 24 exp roll of
C-41 costs me about $11-$12 to get developed and printed as 4x6. What I get
for the extra $2 or $3 dollars over Wal-Mart is a much higher level of
customer service. In teh situation you described, I would simply show them the
negatives and prints, explain what I thought they did wrong and how I wanted
the prints to look (too dark, too light, bad color balance, etc.) and they
happily reprint them for me at no charge (sometimes it takes a few days, but I
can usually live with that). It obviously helps that I do business with them
regularly and they know me there.
Hope this helps,
