First off, to Lee, I empathize - been there and its a crummy feeling. And
Doris, I am agreed that BLH is appropriate when conditions allow it. Since
I don't know the particular subject matter in Chile, I'll not speculate.
While I find myself in agreement with Doris' recommendations, I must admit
that, except for very rare circumstances, I almost never bracket. Maybe one
reason I've never felt compelled to get a wonderbrick with auto-bracket
features. Most of what I shoot is fast-paced action - not exactly bracket
friendly subject matter. In practice, I bracket only when testing something
new or it is a very stationary object and I have plenty of time. I do,
however, meter early and often. I'll compare auto to manual readings, one
body against another, OM readings to hand-held meter readings, and
multi-spot to averaged readings. Then I decide. Otherwise, I just let auto
fly and take what I get.
The one thing I've learned from Lee's unfortunate experience is to get a
quality, multi-coated circular polarizer some day soon. I don't use it
often - I should because I do like the results. Or I could start using that
OM-1n more........
