It appears that Frank L. and I were the first two respondents to Alain's FS
notice and I assume that Frank declined to accept a switch in sale terms
too. Rather than argue the validity of the computer clock, I will cheerfully
yield any claim to first place to Frank, although I have yet to hear from
Alain regarding the trophy lens...
In response to Alain's invitation to bid on the item, I wrote him a
reasonably civil note of demurral, pointing out that I believed he was
changing the sale terms after the fact, an act that was bound to cause him
trouble with the list.
I believe that the distinction between sharp practice and unethical
practice may well differ between Quebec and the US and I am willing to give
Alain the benefit of the doubt in this case. After all, it is only a lens,
not a life and death matter.
Perhaps he should adopt Charles L.'s idea of posting something like 'best
offer over $100 takes it'; this could a bit of spice to an otherwise first
come approach.
