That is why most portrait photographers put them as close as possible.
It is the style now. Real flat, soft, shadowless lighting. Of course if
you are creating a mood this would not do. If you want to control the light
more, you can semi collapse the
umbrella (brollie) to concentrate it.
I rarely have more than an 8 or 9 foot space to place lights for in home
portraits.
the T-32 is strong enough that close for sure. I like one light and a fill
reflector or two.
Portrait lighting could take up another list for a couple of years.
