<<I want to start a new discussion on preventive maintenance for
Olympus OM cameras. I hope that the discussions will eventually
lead to a collection of suggestions for one of the FAQ's, if
it does not exist already. And I think the list of things to
do should be model specific -- for example, for an OM-1, here
are the things to do...; for an OM-10, do these things once a
month... and do these once a year... etc.>>
I really like this idea. Mostly because I can benefit from everyone else's
better knowledge on the subject. :-)
The one thing I do is to blow out the dust etc. with a can of compressed
air.
I also check the battery contacts once in a while, even if I am not changing
them at the time.
My OM1 is 20 years old and has been faithful all these years except for a
dead meter
which I had repaired. I had it CLA'd after 15 years, they fixed the meter
and altered the battery compartment. My OM2 with the original meter pattern
is just as clean and reliable. I bought it used. I also had it CLA'd. Only
problem is if I don't use silver oxide batteries the mirror can stick up
after a few rolls.
