Hello John,
Just wondering if you might have tried using a step up ring to a larger
filter size, does this still cause vignetting? I have always wanted to
try this out with a really wide wide angle but have not got anything wider
than 28mm ;)

The Olympus filters are indeed thinner than most third party filters. With
the ultra-wides, sure 'nuf, it makes a difference.
I tried a Vivitar filter just for grins and it would vignette the corners of
the frame. The Oly filter does not.
