There were really three (or more?) distinct types of OM-1 bodies sold:
1) The very early OM-1's did not have openings for drive/winder coupling.
Olympus offered to modify these bodies when the drive/winder became
available.
2) Then there were the ones that can take drive/winder, but still labeled
as OM-1 only.
3) Finally, there are the OM-1's that can take drive/winder and have the
MD badge in the front (if I remember correctly, these little badges
primarily appear at the lower right side of the lens mount, but they
were also put at other places on the camera body sometimes).
I believe there were both chrome and black version of all three types.
So the only sure way to tell if an OM-{1,2} can take a drive/winder is
to look at the bottom plate for the coupling openings.
