Subject: Re: [OM] Warm Beer...
The slow, unreliable, oil leak stories are urban myths perpetuated by
owners with poor mechanical skills having bought 20 year old machines for
peanuts because they needed a rebuild :-)
*So everything is an urban myth, one way of dismissing an argument with no
evidence.
Hmmm, the refusal to improve in the face of competition - well if you have
a good product ;-)
*The British do not know the meaning of the word customer, it is an alien
concept to everyone I meet. They think that providing service/product is
akin to servitude. They just can't cut in in a competitive world, they
still think in terms of govt sponsored subsidy to outmoded industry.
Where does this subsidy come from, people who are competitive/productive.
Where is the OM5?
*We don't need it, how about an improved OM4TI for starters at least.
The Japanese dumped large quantities of smaller motorcycles here in the 60s
at probably below cost and cleaned up. We ignored them They did the same
thing later with larger machines. Good marketing strategy vs poor
management and no investment for the future in the UK, result, no more UK
motorcycle industry.
*What the Japanese did we could have done also.
The Italians effectively banned the import of foreign motorcycles through
import duties and managed to keep their industry alive for a bit longer.
Laverda are hanging on by the skin of their teeth, Ducati is owned by
Cagiva (Spanish), and Aprillia not too sure about.....
*So every country introduces protectionism, great idea, no trade, no Oly
available in the UK
My favourite camera is still the OM2N,
*You could afford the OM4 TI if Oly UK priced it reasonably, should we
introduce import controls
and set up a government sponsored UK photo industry? Would the Japanese
"dump" their cameras on a market with home production.
On the other hand wouldn't take a Camedia for the OM2N.......
*At some stage digital will improve on film , 2010?, but it will always be
instant obsolescence, when do you jump aboard? I think they should not have
bothered to introduce digital until it was competitive with film, though
perhaps they had to establish the market first, then improve?
