Hell, I don't even *possess* eight lenses! Perhaps some of you
new-equipment purchasers can sell me some of them nice and cheaply in due
course.... the official prices for new OM kit in the UK are too rude to
print, but a couple of grey import shops are undercutting them - around 60%
of RRP. That's a hell of a difference, but a 90mm f2 is still £700
($1000+?). A recent investigation by Amateur Photographer (UK weekly mag)
showed that OM3Ti with 50mm was (allowing for exchange rates):
Japan £870
USA £952
UK £1829 ($2900?)
This was one of the worst examples; others were still significantly higher
here than across the Atlantic. The Nikon F5 was actually cheaper in the USA
than Japan. There is a similar problem on the used market, where OM4s are
at £250-300 ($400-500), OM3 at £400 ($700) and OM4Ti £400-£500 ($700-850).
There is *no way* I am going to pay new prices for OM kit in this country.
We get ripped off by the importers for everything - cars, motorbikes,
cameras, electrical stuff etc., it fair makes me spit.
As for Olympus expanding the range of Zuiko lenses, I don't need (and
couldn't afford) long, fast lenses, wideangle zooms or a 200mm macro. The
limiting factor in the quality of most of my images is my own ability... so
I guess I ought to stop now and go out with my camera. Bye.
