I would check it with my other lenses, if they show the same pattern,
it´s most probably, that the camera has an defect and not the lens. You
could do an countercheck with an other camera body, the suspect lens
should show the same defect.
And please consider what Chris said, that microprism (sometimes
mattescreen too) don´t work with errors in eyesight, but the splitscreen
you used should always work.
