[OM] OLY 'bins'

All the discussion about OLY 'bins' and those 'ol great camera shops, I though
I share my experiences hunting for OLY gold (as in gold and black OM boxes).

I have had great luck this year finding various OLY accessories and other OM
items I didn't even know existed. Despite the fact that stores in my area
only sell the consumer SLR tecnobricks, I have found that many times they do
have a stash of little black & gold boxes hidden away in a drawer or in a
corner of the display case. In most cases they've been sitting on this
inventory for years. When a Zuikophile like me enters the store they are
happy they finally found a buyer and are willing to discount the stuff just to
get rid of it. I'd say 900f the time, a store's stash consists of odd
focusing screens (1-5,6,7,9) and various TTL cords and connectors. Generally,
the more untidy the shop is, the better your chance is for finding stuff.
Typically, those are the shops that are independently owned and they keep
*everything* they ever received from Olympus.

One of my great finds this year was an Olympus Sales Information File. A blue
3-ring binder with OLYMPUS stamped on the spine. It's got a detailed sales
sheet on every OM System component. 200+ pages, circa 1984. (I showed it to
Gary Reese when he was in Illinois this summer and he commented it was on par
with the OM System Lens Handbook) I'm sure there's got to be more of these
out there. If the shop no longer sells OM, chances are they'll let you have
theirs.

Other goodies have been NIB T-20 connectors for $24, NIB 5M TTL cord for $35.

Just this past week, at the bottom of a 'bin', I found a little plastic cover
for the hot shoe socket on an OM-1n/2n. Just screws right into the socket and
also covers the other two little connection holes. Neat!, gives the socket a
nice finished appearance. I never knew OLY made these.

There's plenty of OM stuff still out there but it's getting harder and harder
to find. I know this is nothing new to many of you but I thought the info.
would be helpful to those of you still struggling to build your OM System
before all these goodies are snatched up.
