In commenting on Polachrome, one writer wrote:
"The colour slide film works like an CCD, with three different coloured
filters on the film. This technology was used too with some of the very
first 35mm colour films available in the 30´s."
Actually, such films are _much_ older. There were color films dating
from the turn of the century which used colored stripes (Dufaycolor) or
dyed starch grains (Autochrome). * There were no doubt others, whose
names I forget.
They were obsoleted by the introduction of Kodachrome around 1935, the
first integral-tripack chromogenic film. If it's of any interest,
Kodachrome was invented by two musicians, Leopold Godowsky (piano) and
Leopold Mannes (violin). They were jokingly referred to as God and Man.
The latter was the father of the famous critic and essayist Myra Mannes.
* Someone correct me if I got the names (or instruments!) wrong.
