I have the Databack 4. I mainly use the date imprint for keeping track of
numerous baby pictures. I never used the time imprint. Maybe during the next
lunar eclipse. It would have been nice if OLY included ?AM/PM? in the
imprint. The fixed code is good for recording various information. You can
select any number from 0 to 99 99 99. I use the fixed code for recording the
aperture used for lens tests (i.e. 28= f 2.8). There is also a counting
imprint which I never use. One interesting thing about this function is you
can select what number you want to start from, it doesn?t always need to be 1.
The Databack 4 will only be good for another 11 years (2009). After that, the
pre-programmed chip resets to Jan. 1, 1980. When the year 2010 arrives, you
can use the fixed code feature on the Databack 4 to set a date manually.
(but there will be no apostrophe in front of the year).
Hopefully (knock wood) my OMs will still be functioning in 2010. BTW: The
Databack 3 doesn?t have this fixed code capability, and the Databack 2 date
knob only goes up to year 98.
