But in this case I'm scanning from a slide at 1400 dpi, which is
only approx 1" by 1.5" in size. To print a full page of 7" x 10.5" on
your Epson printer (also what I'm using to pre-proof), this means
the effective res after resizing is 1400/7 = 200 dpi.
Even 2700 dpi (max on this scanner) yields only ~400 dpi at the
printer, and this is with a file size of ~26Mb.
I haven't yet printed above 200dpi from a scan, but others have told
me there is usually little to gain on an ink jet. And since I now
know that 4C press printing is often only 120-150 lpi, it would seem
that anything above 300 dpi at the final repro size is probably
wasted...
Please correct me if I'm giving misleading info here, as I am
certainly no pro at this!
