Andy, now you got my attention. I've never seen a "leatherette" Olympus
strap before. I have several used OM bodies and none of them came with
a strap, and so I had to fish through the boxes at all the camera stores
just to find any Olympus strap for them. All I can find were the "nylon"
straps (the rubbery feeling ones). I've also bought new Olympus lenses
with cases and they all come with the nylon straps (although much shorter
and no "shoulder pad").
I do have a Pentax camera that came with a leather strap (i.e., a long
strip of leather with both sides folded in and sewn with two rows of
stitching). I bought the Pentax new back in the early '70s, so I know it
is genuine. The rubber "shoulder pad" of the Pentax is identical in shape
to the Olympus ones, so I'm sure they are interchangable.
So are you sure the leatherette strap you found was authentic Olympus and
not a "construction" by someone switching the shoulder pad? Anyone else
have a genuine Olympus leatherette strap? Also, most of my straps are
black, except for one which seemed to be very dark brown, anyone know how
many different straps were made by Olympus? Anyone care besides myself? :-)
