This might have been an modification.
About 20 years ago I modified a 50/3.5 macro with in between detents.
The stops are detented by an spring loaded ball falling into shallow
depressions drilled into the aperture ring. I drilled depressions part
way between the existing ones.
Bear in mind that an exact half stop would be hard to determine as it
will not be exactly 1/2 the distance between existing depressions.
This is not recommended for retaining collector or dollar value and a
slip could ruin the ring.
