Thanks, John. One mystery solved...
Any idea when this practice changed? My guess would be between
80 and 84, based on the samples I have.
Could you refresh us on how to read the lens date codes? I tried
the method from the FAQ, but it doesn't seem to make sense on
my 50/1.8, marked SAE4.
