Carsten,
What you need here is a garage. Buy the lens, take it home and put it in
the garage. Later take it out and dust it off. When your wife says: "Where
did you get that?". You say: "It was in the garage!". It kind of matches
the "It was in my closet" answer that wives have been trained from birth to
use.
