The Arca-Swiss B1 is the classic ball head. It's quite expensive, hardly
ever available used, but is a beautiful piece of equipment.
Another one I discovered a few weeks ago is the Giotto. I bought a small
one for my monopod, and I am very impressed with it. The model I have is
the MH1001. It can be adapted to a quick release with the MH200, which I
did. This QR does not have a sliding plate like the Arca and its
competitors; instead a round beveled QR plate on the camera fits into a
socket on the head.
I think this head is available in larger sizes, depending on your usage,
but this size is certainly sufficient for an OM. If I recall, I only paid
about $120 for the whole set-up.
Don't think B&H carries them; I saw and purchased mine at Wall Street Camera.
