Are you in denial? Yes, George, I'm kinda in denial with the bugs. I look like I have the measles and should be quarantened. Seriously, the bug level was the lowest I've ever experienced in the U.P. (Upper Peninsula of Michigan). It has been relatively dry this year and that translates into a lot fewer bugs. In the U.P. mosquitos are less of a problem than the black flies. These flies get HUGE and look like aliens from another planet. Probably the biggest one I saw this year was about an inch and a half long and had really evil looking eyes. When these things bite, it hurts. The puncture wounds they leave will bleed for hours. I won't be able to reread the beatles article in National Geographic for a while. Our last night camping the cintrella (sic) candles expired but there was still about half the wax left so I dumped both of them into the campfire. Don't think there was a bug in the entire campground the rest of the night. The next morning we got up and the Suburban was covered with thousands of small yellowish-green bugs. Fortunately only a few got inside the vehicle and most blew off within an hour of driving at highway speeds. I had made the mistake of taking a newspaper and trying to brush/blow them off the vehicle. A thousand of them took flight at once and proceeded to land on me. I never had my typical problem of bugs landing on the lens element. It's hard to do serious photography with a bug blocking your view. There. Is this succinct enough? not.
