Yes, that is a misconception. The red LED mod, part no. ZJ182700 is for use in
the 2s, 2 spot/program only, and was never needed in the OM-4. There never was
a
flash sync mod for the 4 because the OM-4 viewfinder LED (red or green) was
never
powered by the camera batteries.
As body production progressed, parts and circuits were improved and that could
include the circuit inside the top cover which featured a transistor for flash
sync
control. In the original 4, this transistor was glued into a plastic holder
under
the main body flex. There are atleast 3 or 4 flex circuits inside an OM-4.
My OM-4T has a green flash LED. The most improved 4 circuit came out in the 4T
(and 4Ti). Whether the factory changed LED colors when they did this I don't
know.
I do know that battery drain was dramatically improved from the 4 to the 4T, and
that drain had nothing to do with T flash use. (Which was the subject of the red
LED mod in the 2S).
