The surge protector would only protect against voltage spikes on the mains
supply, if the unit does overheat it will not protect it. I guess you
could go to the trouble of modifying it with a thermal cutout, but in
reality I would probably just build another charger and throw the olympus
thing away.
I can just see the owner returning home to his smouldering house, standing
in front of a pile of melted fused together zuicko's. All this to just
save a $2 capacitor.... IMO not worth the risk....

Nope, the sticker is definitely authentic. It has the UL listed emblem as
well as the CSA. But under a closer look Guess What? In FINE print it reads
"For use with Olympus Electronic Flash T20 only" VERY INTERESTING !! I
sounds like Oly did have a problem with it and the T32. Maybe that is why
John H. saw an Adapter 3 which had caught on FIRE. WOW!!!
Question; Would keeping these adapters plugged into one of those Surge
Protectors help if it did over heat?
