[OM] Sylus Epic vs. Stylus Zoom 35-70

My son thinks he wants to buy one of these as a back-up camera for his
upcoming six month stay in China.  Any opinions about these or other
inexpensive alternatives?  (BTW, I showed him the XA w/flash combination
but he decided it was too bulky to carry along all of the time.)
