I finally found it. In the June B&H catalog, page 47, is a device called
the Flare Buster. It is offered in three models, the basic version for
$22.50, the extra long for telephotos for 24.95 and the Studio Kit for
78.95. And yes, Warren is right; a few odds and ends, a little time and
some glue and you can make one for next to $zero.
