I see everybody seems to have skipped your second sentence.
Yes my 65-116 Auto Tube has a rattle, both mounted and unmounted.
However I would consider it quite subdued. It doesn't sound like ball
bearings, more like the apreture lever flopping back and forth, and then
only when you shake the camera/tube/lens assy back and forth.
