I too have the Tokina RMC 400 f5.6. I found a Tamron tripod support that
fits it exactly, cost me $5 AUD. It has made a good lense even better.
I now use it with a monopod and get some incredibly sharp pictures....
I don't think my hands were steady enough for hand holding it.

I have a Tokina 400/5.6 which I bought second hand. I've been happy with
this lens, the only thing that is missing is the tripod collar. I don't
know whether this lens has been tested anywhere, but I find the
sharpness and colour of the images quite adequate for my purposes.
