YES!!!! X-Raying does affect film. Don't let anyone kid you. However, it
won't affect it much with a single pass. What I have personally experienced
is that the black layer won't be as black and will have a very slight
magenta cast. The primary color layers don't seem to be affected much and
if your images don't push the contrast range, you won't find any evidence of
the x-ray exposure. I can always identify a roll that has been x-rayed at
least one time--by looking at the processed leader. The blacks will never
be as black as the un-x-rayed version. Actually, I've found velvia do to
the same thing if it is exposed to high heat too long (car interior on hot
day).
I have found that the x-ray damage doesn't matter too much if the end result
is scanning, but for projection it is pure destruction.
