I had a desire for a "bright" torch a few years back and constructed
one using a 50w Qh bulb - the sort with a built in reflector - and a
7ah gell cell. It is like having a car hi-beam headlight in torch
form. I have thought that it could be quite useful for photography
as the bulb is housed in an aluminium cell which a 55mm filter just
happens to sit very nicely on.
Now what would be the correct filter to afix to colour correct the
light?
81 A, B, C or none of the above?
I have a 55mm 81 A so it is very unlikely to be the correct one 8-)
A couple of pointers - the bulbs get hot - construct accordingly -
metal, ceramics, tempered glass - those sorts of things. Forget
using plastics, silicone rubbers etc. You will not want rain to come
in direct contact with a bulb or its reflector while it is hot. Use
bulbs with a glass front to minimise UV exposure as these bulbs give
off quite a bit . Gel cells require finesse when recharging if they
are to last any length of time so you will probably want to budget
for a special charger or build one as I did.
