I have been seeing a box of the M.15V Ni-Cd Charger 1 on the shelf in my
local camera store for a while and I finally decided to ask about it on
Friday. I thought it was used because it was on one of the shelves for
used items, but it turned out that it is one of those new OM items which
had been in storage for a long time as the store ceased to stock the OM
system about 8 or 9 years ago.
The M.15V Ni-Cd Charger 1 works with the M.15V Ni-Cd Control Pack 1/2 to
charge the Ni-Cd battery for the Motor Drive 1/2. According to the
instruction sheet (English, German, French and Spanish), the charging time
for full capacity is 4-5 hours which will be adequate for approximately 40
rolls of 36-exposure film. There is a switching screw on the AC plug to
adjust for your local voltage rating (100, 115, 200, and 240V available at
50/60 Hz), but depending on the socket shape you might need a plug adapter.
According to a copy of the OM system price list in Japan, the item has a
list price of 7000 yen (roughly $50+ ). The store will sell it for $30
plus sales tax (5 0n Maryland). I saw a price of $80 at Access Camera on
the Web. If anyone is interested, please e-mail me privately. If you are
in the US, I'll let you get in touch with the store directly. If you are
outside of the US, perhaps I can help out in the transaction. I recall
that Giles posted some time ago that he sent a small amount of cash without
a problem. I can also accept the following currencies: yen, British pound,
Austrian schillings. I am pretty certain of my using the first two
currencies as I will be in Scotland in early August this year and I will be
visiting my parents in Japan more often.
As I said, the store used to stock the OM system and as such sold a lot of
OM-1s and OM-2s. It still is a major camera store in Baltimore where
Baltimore photographers go to have a first-hand look at the new Nikons and
Canons besides other brands including Olympus' OM2000, Camedia, and P&S and
to have a chat with the knowledgeable sales staff. The store has one
branch in the Baltimore area, but the main store is in the subsection of
the city of Baltimore where I live. When you walk in, the first impression
you have is the number of salesmen. They have four or five of them
regularly. By the way, it is located in the middle of the block, and it has
been in business since 1946.
I have put a jpg file of the charger on my Web site to give you an idea
about the charger. The store made a photocopy of the instruction sheet and
the left edge got chopped off. As a result, the English instruction is not
complete and a view of the charger is not complete either, but I hope you
will get enough idea. I might add that this file shows only the top half
of the instruction sheet.
