Hi David,
A slight bit of muscle is all that is required. Use fingernails, the blunt
end of a ball point pen, or the end of a dull screwdriver, and pry one of
the batteries out starting at the center. After the first one is out, it's a
piece of cake. Installing new batteries is the same, a bit of force and they
pop right in.
