    John,
     Yes, the spot metering area is the center spot/microprism area.Also,
   be aware that there are TWO OM2S Program manuals- the instruction booklet
   and the (B) "For Your Creative Photography" booklet. Essentially, the first
   gives you basics, the second tells you how to USE the camera.
