Hi Gary.
I agree with most you wrote, and which therefore I snipped off..
Because I share your postive feelings aboute the social character of
this club, I think that it is justified to add some to your historical
knowledge in this place.
This Peter Minnewit (as we call Peter Minuit) was a German and
consequently never had the right to put the proud Van in front of his
name....
Of course he was serving the Dutch Flag when founding Nieuw Nederland,
with Nieuw Amsterdam (later New York) as a capital.
But to connect this commercial German with PvT or myself, just because
we have the Van in front of our names.... that is one bridge too far,
Herr Schloss! <g>
