First shot was inside section one. It is of two people passing away time
throwing horseshoes. I positioned myself about 4 feet behind the pin and as
low as I could get with the Zuiko 35-80 zoom at about 40mm (just off
full-wide). Each throw of the horseshoe toward me I'd fire off a couple
shots. The best one has the shoe pointing open-end down, framing the
thrower, who is ever so slightly out of focus in the background. The shoe
and pin are tack sharp.

The second and third appear in color on the back page of section one. The
top shot is of a crewman standing on the pitlane wall holding a wheel/tire,
crouched and ready to leap over for the coming pit stop. With the 21mm f/2
Zuiko, I positioned the camera about 15-18 inches away from the tire and
slightly up, grossly exaggerating its size and proportions relative to the
crewman. Its my favorite. The third was taken with the 35-80 zoom of a man
sleeping in the bed of a pickup. I knelt low and framed it such that the
size of his boots was exaggerated (and the license plate just out of view)
but it was still easy to tell it was a man in a sleeping bag. In the
background you can just see his buddy standing there casually brushing his
teeth.

The 35-80 zoom proved to be the best lens for infield and pit lane use. The
300 was only useful for cars on track as they entered the corners. If they
were directly in front of my position, 200mm was more than enough.
