Another fine example of good Olympus glass and now the numbers:
Lens test of macro lenses made by the German magazin Color Foto,
published in 1/88,2/88.
The graphs, of this test, are missing here for obvious reasons.
The quality numbers are basing on MTF measuring, the difference of one
whole number marks an, for the critical observer, just noticable difference in
sharpnes, contrast. The maximum number is 10, which stands for a flawless lens.
The number are computed and weigthed for the central half diameter to
2/3 and the rest to 1/3, the extrem corners are not rated.

Remarkeble is the high performance of the fast Zuiko compared
with the slower Zeiss and Leitz lenses. Zeiss and Leitz have a
better contrast than the average lenses, it´s a pitty, that I
have no numbers for the Zuiko at 2,8 , I would expect an rise in
contrast for it. What too, distingish this group of three, from
the rest of the tested lenses is the high transmission of light
through the lens. The APO Leitz is a real APO lens (not "Sigma APO
everything"), that means, you don´t need focus correction for infrared.
This test shows, that the fame of Olympus macro lenses has reasons.
