I must admit, my first reaction to the news of Oly's price increases
was: the OMs are nearing the end of their production. Why else would
they do such an illogical thing?
But where does the OM-2000 fit in? Several sources have suggested
that it was designed to Oly's specs, which would indicate some R&D
money spent on Oly's part. Or is this all just hype, and they
actually just ordered X-thousand units of OM-2000s off the Cosina OEM
order sheet, had them add spot metering to give the illusion of a
true OM design? Surely, if Oly did spend some R&D money on it, they
would at least bother to mention this, and list the camera on their
website...
It would be interesting to know more about the evolution of the
OM-2000 from an inside perpsective, as I suspect it might reveal
more about Oly's intentions than this recent price increase.
