Sorry if I have misunderstood you, but your reply implies that the filter
ring on the front of the lense can be removed? Is this correct? If so
how?

I use a small wooden or nylon post, maybe 3" long 1/2" in diameter. Place
one
end on the ding, tap with light duty hammer until it goes back to it's old
self, then replace it. DOUGH
