I've had surprisingly good results with HP5+ at 1600 and stock Microphen, using
Ilford's data. ie: 8x10s with acceptable grain and amazingly good shadow detail
and tonal range. Don't even bother pushing Delta 400 - it falls apart after one
stop in my experience.
I have a URL at home which lists further push times, I'll try to
post it tonight. I think the key is to use a high energy developer like
Microphen and use it STOCK.
You may want to do some zone tests to establish speeds and dev times when
going beyond a 2 stop push. I think the guideline is something like 50%
increase in dev time for each 1 stop push.
