>
>- Backwards compatible with all lenses/motor drives/winders/flashes
Yes. Essential.
>- Same metering system as OM 3/4T, eventually smaller spot area
Yes. The metering system must not change!
>- Flash syncro speed 1/125 or 1/250
Would be nice, but hard (impossible?) to do with a mechanical shutter
>- Nice large high eyepoint viewfinder for eyeglass wearers
OK
>- Dioptric correction in viewfinder
Like OM-3 & 4 (Ti)? It would be good to be able to tell when the
correction is set at zero...
>- Aperture display in viewfinder
I read there was a problem with this, but it would be useful, yes.
>- No built-in winder
Hear hear!
>- Mirror lock-up separated from self-timer (or a
>second shorter self-timer interval)
Gotta be separate from the timer. Even a shorter delay timer with
prefire would not be acceptable.
>- Handier self-timer/beeper switch (regarding OM4)
This switch is for the beeper only on my OM-3. I leave it switched off.
No timer on the 3, but if there was it would annoy me if I had to use
that switch. Agreed.
>- ISO range up to 6400
Yes
>- About same size/weight as previous OM models (slightly
>larger body size would not concern me)
But slightly larger body size might affect compatibility with motor
drives. The OM-5 has _got_ to be the same size as the OM1-4 (Ti) line.
>- No autofocus or other gimmicks (focus/DOF indicator like Contax RX
would
>be
>acceptable but probably clutter the viewfinder display)
It would. I was once a Min***a user and the display-heavy viewfinders
were annoying.
>- Body should be rain resistant (have never tested my OM4Ti so far...)
My OM-1N often gets used in the rain. It's never caused a problem. My
OM-3 was expensive so I haven't dared try it yet! I agree, the camera
should be totally weatherproof.
>- Not too much plastic
Zero if possible! I'm not too worried about the actual metal used -
titanium is expensive stuff...
>- Varimagni-finder-like right-angle adaptor, but without
>magnifying capabilities for taking pictures near the ground
Good idea
>- Silent shutter mechanism
Yes. Move over, Leica!
>- price not over $1500
Exactly right. Not too expensive, but not too cheap either.
I would add to this spec a completely mechanical shutter, OTF flash, and
possibly a removable prism to allow shots to be composed on the screen
directly (good for candids and shots when the camera has to be held at
arm's length above the head).
Here's hoping!
